Admission to the Honors Program is determined by the Honors Review Committee and is based upon the following initial criteria:

1. Standardized test score
1. a) ACT composite score of 25 or sub-score of 25 in Reading, English, Mathematics, or Science OR
2. b) SAT combined score of 1150 on Critical Reading and Mathematics or a subscore of 570 in Critical Reading, Writing, or Mathematics

OR

1. A cumulative GPA of 3.25 after 12 hours of college credit

AND

1. No record of Academic Integrity Code violations
2. Completed application and essay

The application is open to any current Jacksonville College students who meet the above criteria.

Application dates are September 15th for the Fall Term and February 15th for the Spring Term.

Upon admission in the Honors Program, students must complete at least five courses of their degree with honors credit. To enter into a contract for honors credit in a specific course, the student must be approved by the instructor of that particulart course. In order to receive honors credit, the student must earn a grade of “B” or better in the course and complete the designated Honors Project for the course. 

If an Honors Program participant’s date of degree conferment occurs in May, the student is expected to participate in Jacksonville College’s spring graduation ceremony.

Honors Program participation is dependent on upholding the Academic Integrity Code. Any student found in violation of the Code will be subject to dismissal from the Honors Program.

Courses with potential honors credit are listed here. This list is subject to change and it is the student’s responsibility to confer with instructors about potential honors credit for enrolled courses. To enter into a contract for honors credit in a specific course, the student must be approved by the instructor of that individual course. For any courses not listed, please consult with your insutrctor about the potential development of an honors project for that course.

Application and Program Process:

1. The student completes the Honors Program Application.
2. Application is sent to the Honors Committee for consideration.
3. Student will be emailed the committee’s decision.
4. It is the student’s responsibility to confer with instructors about potential honors credit for enrolled courses. To enter into a contract for honors credit in a specific course, the student must be approved by the instructor of that course.
5. In order to receive honors credit, the student must earn a grade of “B” or better in the course.
6. Graduation from the Honors Program requires completion of at least five courses with honors credit.
7. If an Honors Program participant’s date of degree conferment occurs in May, the student is expected to participate in Jacksonville College’s spring graduation ceremony.
8. Honors Program participation is dependent on upholding the Academic Integrity Code. Any student found in violation of the Code, will be subject to dismissal from the Honors Program.

In addition to the transcript and diploma designation, students may receive the following benefits from participation in the Honors Program:

• Work one-on-one with instructors for mentorship and advanced research.
• Hone critical-thinking skills in preparation for university-level coursework.
• Increased chances of erarning scholarships and entrance into honors and academic programs at transferring institutions.
• Build relationships and form connections with high-achieveing peers, alumni, and academic staff.
• Show potential employers that you can handle rigorous, high-level work.
