Congressman Nathaniel Moran to Speak at Jacksonville College

Jacksonville College invites the community to be our guests for the forty-eighth annual Manley Distinguished Lecture Series on Monday, April 13, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. in Buckner Chapel on the College campus. This year our event will feature a program by Congressman Nathaniel Moran entitled “The Responsibility of Liberty.” Student Cody Johnson will lead the “Star Spangled Banner” and special guest Nolan Richey will sing “The Statue of Liberty.”

Congressman Nathaniel Moran serves the seventeen counties of the First District of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives. He attended West Point for two years before transferring to Texas Tech University, where he ultimately earned a B.A. in Russian, an MBA, and a law degree.

Congressman Moran began his elected public service as a member of the City Council for the City of Tyler, Texas from 2005-2009. In 2016, he was appointed as the Smith County Judge, and then subsequently elected to a full four-year term in 2018. He continued in that role until he was elected to Congress in November 2022.

In the House of Representatives, Congressman Moran serves on the Judiciary Committee, the Foreign Affairs Committee, and the Education and the Workforce Committee. As a freshman Member, he was also appointed by the Speaker of the House to serve as the U.S. Chairman of the Transatlantic Legislators’ Dialogue, one of the longest and most intensive inter-parliamentary relationships in the history of the European Parliament or the U.S. House of Representatives.

The Nora Belle Manley Lecture Series, renamed as the Manley Distinguished Lecture Series, is a tribute to a well-loved instructor at Jacksonville College whose tenure was characterized by an unwavering dedication to the academic and cultural development of the JC community. The Lecture Series is organized by the Barnwell Anderson chapter of the Walter Prescott Webb Historical Society. This program is supported by Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
